Evaluation of chemical stabilisation methods of coal-petcoke fly ash to reduce the mobility of Mo and Ni against environmental concerns

Reducing the potential leaching of Mo and Ni from fly ash (FA) petroleum coke is an increasingly important issue as Asia Europe’s demand expected to drastically intensify continuing urbanisation technological innovation demands ever more electricity. In present study, we investigated coal combustion products (CCP) a large coal-fired power station fed with 56:44 coal/petroleum blend. Results revealed that leachable concentrations FA were in upper non-hazardous limit inert limit, respectively (2003/33/EC). Whilst common prevention measures for based on adsorption capacity boiler slag (BS), mixture BS: goethite, jarosite, considered insufficient reduce into leachates, novel chemical stabilisation method aggregate product portlandite immobilised both such resulting below limits established abovementioned 2003 EC Decision. Precipitation may be responsible fixation FA: aggregates Ca(MoO4) NiMoO4, respectively. The findings this study support use pollutants, which will particular interest nations remain largely coke-dependant.
